Seems to be a growing trend here. First, Dr. Jamie Koufman’s “Dropping Acid Cookbook” and now “The Acid Reflux Solution” by Dr. Jorge E. Rodriguez.

You’ve eaten a good meal. It was so delicious that you splurged and had seconds of everything. But hours later that enjoyment turns to pain as a hot liquid shoots up through your throat, burning a path into the back of your mouth.
You’ve just experienced heartburn.
Dr. Jorge E. Rodriguez, author of “The Acid Reflux Solution: A Cookbook and Lifestyle Guide for Healing Heartburn Naturally” (Ten Speed Press, 2012), reports that one-sixth of the American population experiences heartburn occasionally or even daily.
Heartburn takes away from the pleasure of eating and, if ignored long enough, may eventually result in precancerous Barrett’s esophagus or other health problems.
Rodriguez, an internist and gastroenterologist, admits to his own years of dealing with heartburn. In the first one-third of the book Rodriguez explains the condition, the symptoms, antacid medications and the risk of self-medicating.
The program he proposes to eliminate heartburn and the related condition gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is threefold: 12 lifestyle adjustments; foods to eat and to avoid; and ideas for reducing medication through consultation with your doctor. Rodriguez suggests trying the program for three months. If there is no improvement, a doctor visit is imperative.
The recipe section of the book was developed with co-writer Susan Wyler, a registered dietitian. The focus is on high fiber, low saturated fat and portion control.
A major cause of acid reflux is being overweight, and the authors suggest that following the program may result in weight loss.
